About me

Hi, I’m João Prates, a media server programmer/operator and system engineer based in the Antwerp area, Belgium.

That’s just a formal way of saying I push buttons for a living. Fortunately, I still have all ten fingers (which, for the record, is above average)—a fact that definitely comes in handy.

With 15+ years in the AV industry, I’ve dedicated my career to specializing in all things video. From making pixels behave to ensuring screens light up when they should, I handle the technical chaos so that others can take the credit.
 

When I’m not making sure everything works (or putting out fires caused by things that should work), you’ll probably find me watching blinking LEDs, aligning projectors within a fraction of a pixel, or untangling the latest AV “standards,” which seem to be designed to both fix and break things simultaneously.
